Goals
1. To have the students start to analyze of figurative language used in Speak in order to find how the figurative language supports the meaning of the sentence structure.

Materials
1. Speak Book
Activities and Procedures
1. Students will be listening to while reading along with the first activity of Speak. They are encouraged to take notes in any format they would like to ensure that they are engaging with the material (15 mins)
2. Students then will be assigned in four groups, each recieving one of the four chapters that was read in class for the day. They will read the chapter, have about 10 minutes to pick out figurative language in the chapter then have a short discussion in class about what the groups picked out (skeleton notes can be made for this) (45 mins)
Accommodation
The students will be reading and listening, which provide a diverse format of how they are getting the literature. Additionally, they are working in groups with each other to work on finding the figurative language so they are scaffolding each other for the answer
Extensions
They will be doing this sort of lesson plan about every four days
Assessment
At the end of the unit, they will be assessed on the use of figurative language in a small, short answer quiz
